Abstract

Introduction: Tooth loss, recognized by the World Health Organization as a public health problem, compromises masticatory, aesthetic, and psychosocial functions, negatively impacting quality of life. In this context, dental implants emerge as a predictable and effective solution, contributing to functional and aesthetic rehabilitation, in addition to maintaining bone integrity. With technological advancements, dentistry has incorporated the digital workflow, replacing conventional impressions with more precise and agile techniques, such as intraoral scanning and CAD/CAM systems, optimizing the planning and execution of implant-supported prostheses. Objective: To conduct a literature review on the use of the digital workflow in the planning and execution of implant-supported prostheses, highlighting its advantages, limitations, clinical results, and future prospects. Methodology: This is a literature review based on scientific studies addressing the use of digital technologies applied to implant dentistry, including intraoral scanning, CAD/CAM modeling, and digital planning. Evidence comparing digital and analog workflows regarding accuracy, clinical time, patient comfort, and predictability of prosthetic outcomes was analyzed. Conclusion: Digital workflow represents a significant advancement in dentistry, offering greater accuracy and clinical predictability. Intraoral scanning reduces errors in conventional impressions and improves communication between the clinic and laboratory. Despite challenges such as cost and the need for training, the trend is toward widespread adoption of these technologies, making them essential for rehabilitation with implant-supported prostheses.
