Exogenous intoxication is a public health problem in Brazil, due to its high prevalence and lethality. Furthermore, it is important to point out that thesedeaths are preventable and require combating through public measures, especially in the most underprivileged regions of Brazil. Moreover, this issuehas few published data confirming its real relevance in the current context, evenwith its high absolute rate of annual deaths. The present study aims to analyzeand statistically compile the number of deaths from exogenous intoxication in Brazil, using publicly available data. For this purpose, data were extracted fromthe Mortality Information System (SIM) - DATASUS, covering the periodbetween 2018 and 2022. The selection of information was carried out byapplying specific filters to fit the concept of exogenous intoxication, whilemaintaining stratification by both different regions of the national territory andracial categories. Additionally, a mortality rate was established, calculated bythe ratio between the number of deaths and the total number of inhabitants in each region, based on 100,000 inhabitants. These population data wereobtained from information provided by the Brazilian Institute of Geography andStatistics (IBGE). The results of the study indicated a higher mortality rate in theBlack population (0.6616), compared to pardos (0.5108) and whites (0.3497). For the Asian, Indigenous, and unknown race populations, the data wereinsufficient for analysis. Another relevant aspect was the predominance of deaths observed in the Southeast region, for black and white, while for pardos, there was greater variation in mortality rates among the different regions of thecountry.
