Abstract

Oral wound dressings have been widely studied and applied in modern dentistry due to their ability to promote healing, comfort, and protection during surgical procedures. This study aims to review the literature on the use of these dressings in dental surgeries, analyzing their composition, properties, and clinical effectiveness. A bibliographic review was conducted in databases such as SciELO, PubMed, Scopus, BVS, and Google Scholar, considering publications from the last five years. Adhesive intraoral dressings, such as Ora-Aid® and Curatick®, present a polymeric structure with hydrophilic and lipophilic layers that promote mucoadhesion, hemostasis, and tissue regeneration. Studies show that these materials significantly reduce pain, bleeding, and postoperative infection risk while accelerating wound healing by maintaining a moist and stable environment. Despite their advantages, the selection of the dressing should consider anatomical factors and individual patient characteristics. It is concluded that the use of intraoral dressings represents a relevant advancement in postoperative management, contributing to safe and effective clinical practice.
