Abstract
Adherence to chemotherapy treatment is a central challenge in cancer care, influenced by biopsychosocial factors that can compromise treatment continuity and efficacy. This study aimed to analyze the main factors that interfere with chemotherapy adherence and discuss multidisciplinary interventions that promote patient engagement. An integrative review of the literature published between 2019 and 2024 was conducted, searching the SciELO, LILACS, and BDENF databases, considering studies that addressed biological, psychological, social, and educational aspects, as well as interprofessional support strategies. The results indicate that adverse effects, anxiety, depression, lack of social support, financial difficulties, and lack of knowledge about treatment are factors that hinder adherence. On the other hand, multidisciplinary actions, such as psychological counseling, nursing guidance, health education, social support, and interdisciplinary collaboration, have proven effective in increasing engagement and promoting better clinical outcomes. It is concluded that adherence to chemotherapy treatment depends on a comprehensive understanding of the patient and the coordinated action of multidisciplinary teams, reinforcing the importance of individual-centered and humanized strategies in cancer care.
