Abstract

Supernumerary teeth, classified as dental anomalies, can affect both primary and permanent dentition, leading to functional, aesthetic, and occlusal alterations. In Pediatric Dentistry, early diagnosis is essential to prevent complications such as eruption delay, crowding, root resorption, and cyst development. This literature review aimed to analyze the influence of radiology on the diagnosis and therapeutic planning of such cases. The research was conducted in national and international databases, selecting articles published between 2015 and 2025 that addressed radiographic diagnosis, clinical implications, and therapeutic strategies. The findings highlight that although panoramic radiography is widely used, its limitations emphasize the relevance of cone-beam computed tomography, which provides higher diagnostic accuracy. Treatment generally involves tooth extraction, but the approach must consider the patient’s age, tooth position, and associated risks, with radiographic monitoring as an alternative in selected cases. It is concluded that radiology plays a fundamental role in the diagnosis and planning of supernumerary teeth in Pediatric Dentistry, enabling safer, more appropriate, and individualized interventions for each patient.
