Impact of Social Media Use on the Development of Symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in Health Science Students in the Municipality of Montes Claros-MG

This article aims to conduct a cross-sectional and analytical study on the impact of social media usage time on the development of symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The study instrument includes the Adult Self-Report Scale-18 (ASRS-18), daily social media usage time, and sociodemographic factors. Data collection was conducted online through Google Forms. The data were analyzed using Excel, employing statistical analyses such as the Chi-Square Test for each sociodemographic factor, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient, and Simple Linear Regression for each social media platform in relation to the presence of ADHD. It was concluded that only “X / Twitter” showed an association with ADHD symptoms, suggesting that the platform's usage patterns may have idiosyncrasies contributing to the symptoms of this disorder, which is multifactorial and primarily related to neurobiological and genetic aspects, rather than solely environmental factors.
