A PRESCRIÇÃO DE BENZODIAZEPÍNICOS NO TRATAMENTO DE INSÔNIA EM IDOSOS: UMA REVISÃO SISTEMÁTICA

Resumo

Com o envelhecimento da população, observa-se um aumento expressivo na prevalência de distúrbios do sono entre idosos, especialmente da insônia. Nesse cenário, o uso frequente de benzodiazepínicos como estratégia terapêutica passa a configurar um relevante problema de saúde pública, sobretudo diante dos efeitos prejudiciais associados ao uso prolongado desses fármacos. O presente estudo tem como objetivo analisar a prescrição de benzodiazepínicos no tratamento da insônia em idosos, discutir os riscos relacionados ao uso contínuo e avaliar estratégias de desprescrição, bem como alternativas não farmacológicas. Para isso, realizou-se uma revisão sistemática da literatura, com buscas nas bases PubMed, SciELO e LILACS, empregando descritores relacionados a “benzodiazepinas”, “idoso” e “insônia”, incluindo estudos publicados nos últimos cinco anos, nos idiomas português, inglês e espanhol. Desse modo, observa-se que o uso prolongado desses medicamentos está associado a impactos nocivos relevantes, especialmente no contexto de polifarmácia, evidenciando a necessidade de reavaliações periódicas aliadas à adoção de abordagens não farmacológicas, como a terapia cognitivo-comportamental para insônia. Ademais, ressalta-se a importância do fortalecimento de estratégias educativas voltadas à promoção de maior segurança e qualidade de vida da população idosa.
