Abstract

Introduction: Coronary artery disease is a chronic, multifactorial, slow and progressive inflammatory disease, mainly affecting the intimal layer of medium and large arteries. Responsible for high morbidity and mortality. Aiming to reduce mortality, diagnostic techniques have been developed, among which microalbuminuria has been an additional, rapid and multifactorial tool. Method: Prospective cohort study involving 17 patients aged 18 or over, diagnosed with confirmed coronary artery disease and needing percutaneous treatment admitted to a Brazilian Tertiary Hospital. Clinical and laboratory data were collected from patients. Results: 17 patients with a mean age of 60.8 + 11.4 years were evaluated. Ten patients were male and the average length of stay was 11.8 + 8.97 days. Regarding microalbuminuria values, 13 patients presented 150 mg/dL, three 300 mg/dL and one patient did not present microalbuminuria upon admission and after catheterization. The most prevalent condition was systemic arterial hypertension and the most significant risk factor was smoking, all patients presented positive troponin. Discussion: The cardiovascular and renal conditions of the patients are in accordance with previously published studies, with the majority of patients having dyslipidemia and/or hypertension. In the present study, 94.11% of patients presented microalbuminuria, however, there was no change in microalbuminuria before and after catheterization. Microalbuminuria was reported as an independent predictor of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in the non-diabetic population. Conclusion: Microalbuminuria is an extremely important test in patients with coronary artery disease, as it is directly related to prognosis.
