Abstract

ABSTRACT

 

The incorporation of digital technologies into Implant Dentistry has expanded the possibilities for planning and performing surgical procedures, making guided surgery an increasingly adopted approach for immediate implant placement. This technique aims to improve implant positioning accuracy, enhance treatment predictability, and optimize clinical outcomes, particularly in areas with high esthetic demands. The present study aimed to review the scientific literature regarding the use of guided surgery in immediate implant placement, emphasizing its influence on surgical accuracy, functional and esthetic predictability, and clinical time. This narrative literature review was conducted through electronic searches in the PubMed/MEDLINE, PubMed Central (PMC), Google Scholar, and SciELO databases. Articles published between 2017 and 2026 in English and Portuguese were included, comprising clinical trials, observational studies, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and case reports related to the topic. The findings demonstrated that guided surgery provides high accuracy in implant positioning and greater treatment predictability compared with conventional techniques. The reviewed studies also highlighted benefits related to the preservation of peri-implant tissues, improved esthetic outcomes, and reduced surgical invasiveness. However, factors such as inadequate planning, limitations of digital systems, patient anatomical characteristics, and the clinician's experience may influence clinical outcomes. It can be concluded that guided surgery represents an important resource in contemporary Implant Dentistry, contributing to safer and more predictable treatments. Nevertheless, successful outcomes remain dependent on appropriate clinical planning and the correct execution of each stage of the digital workflow.
