Analysis of Malaria Prevalence Among Pregnant Women in Angola, 2020–2025

Abstract

Malaria remains a major public health issue in Angola, significantly impacting pregnant women and constituting a significant factor in maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. This study aimed to analyze the prevalence of malaria among pregnant women in Angola from 2020 to 2025, using simulated data based on national epidemiological trends. It is a quantitative, descriptive, and analytical study with a retrospective approach. Indicators such as the number of cases, annual prevalence, maternal age, and gestational trimester were analyzed. Descriptive and inferential statistical techniques were applied, including the calculation of means and standard deviations, as well as the chi-square test. The results indicated an average prevalence of 28.4%, with the highest incidence among women aged 20–34 and during the second trimester of pregnancy. A downward trend was observed between 2020 and 2022, followed by an increase between 2023 and 2025. The study concludes that malaria in pregnant women remains a significant challenge in Angola, requiring strengthened prevention and control policies.
