Trend of severe acute malnutrition in the Nursing Unit of Hospital Nossa Senhora da Paz - Cubatão: Comparative analysis of indicators from 2024 and 2025

Child malnutrition remains one of the main public health problems in Angola (UNICEF, 2024). The Nutritional Stabilization Unit - UEN of Nossa Senhora da Paz Hospital in Cubal plays a key role in treating children with severe acute malnutrition. This article analyzes the trends of severe acute malnutrition at the Cubal UEN in 2024 and 2025, based on internal program data. In the period analyzed, 2,567 new admissions were recorded. The cure rate was 87.9% in 2024 and 74.2% in 2025, with an increase in deaths and dropouts. The study discusses associated factors, including the impact of the El Niño phenomenon, challenges and recommendations to strengthen the response to malnutrition in Benguela province.
