Abstract

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic inflammatory disease of autoimmune origin, which can affect multiple organs and tissues, such as the skin, joints, kidneys and brain, and also presents variations according to the phases of activity and remission. The main clinical findings are: spots on the skin, inflammation of the pleura, hypertension and kidney problems. It is estimated that there are 5 million people with SLE worldwide, 90% are women of childbearing age. The aim of this case report was to describe the life of a female patient diagnosed with SLE more than 10 years ago. This is a qualitative study, in which the patient was followed up over 6 months, obtaining her medical and psychological history, biochemical tests and medication used since diagnosis until the present moment. We therefore conclude that more studies are needed to help understand, diagnose and treat SLE.
