Abstract

 

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Respiratory diseases are frequent in children, adolescents, and adults, with asthma being a chronic airway disease characterized by inflammation, increased sensitivity of the bronchi, and difficulty in airflow, causing symptoms such as shortness of breath, cough, and wheezing. Objective: The objective of this study was to analyze the role of physiotherapy in asthma control, focusing on respiratory rehabilitation therapeutic strategies used to improve lung function, reduce symptoms, and contribute to the quality of life of asthmatic patients. Methodology: A literature review was conducted in the Lilacs, Scielo, Bvs, and Pubmeddatabases, selecting articles from the years 2018 to 2025. Results and discussion: The studies showed that different respiratory physiotherapy techniques, such as inspiratory muscle training, breathing exercises, home rehabilitation, bronchial hygiene, physical exercises, non-invasive ventilation, and respiratory re-education, improve pulmonary function, symptom control, and quality of life in patients with asthma, being effective in both children and adults and acting as an important complement to conventional treatment. Final considerations: Respiratory physiotherapy is an important ally in controlling symptoms, improving pulmonary function, and enhancing the quality of life of asthmatic patients, reinforcing its relevance as an essential part of this care.
