Physiotherapeutic treatment of lateral ankle sprain in athletes: a literature review

A entorse lateral do tornozelo é uma das lesões mais comuns no esporte, com alta incidência e grande risco de recidiva, podendo evoluir para instabilidade crônica. Este estudo teve como objetivo analisar a eficácia das intervenções fisioterapêuticas na recuperação funcional e na prevenção de novas lesões em atletas. Trata-se de uma revisão de literatura qualitativa, baseada em artigos publicados entre 2021 e 2026 nas principais bases científicas.
Os resultados demonstram que o protocolo POLICE é mais eficaz na fase aguda, promovendo recuperação mais rápida. A terapia manual, especialmente as mobilizações com movimento, contribui para melhora da mobilidade e função. Exercícios proprioceptivos, neuromusculares e fortalecimento muscular são fundamentais na reabilitação, reduzindo significativamente o risco de recidivas. Além disso, terapias emergentes e programas preventivos, como o FIFA 11+ Ankle, mostram bons resultados na redução de novas lesões.
Conclui-se que a fisioterapia tem papel essencial no tratamento e prevenção da entorse lateral do tornozelo, sendo fundamental a utilização de abordagens baseadas em evidências para garantir retorno seguro ao esporte e minimizar complicações a longo prazo.
