Abstract

Paranoid schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder characterized by delusions and hallucinations, which significantly affect individuals’ behavior, cognition, and social functioning. Its complexity goes beyond clinical manifestations, involving profound psychosocial consequences that directly impact the quality of life of patients and their families. In the context of comprehensive health care, addressing this condition requires an integrated and multidisciplinary approach that considers biological, psychological, and social dimensions. The objective of this study is to analyze the clinical and psychosocial impacts of paranoid schizophrenia on comprehensive health care, highlighting the challenges faced by health professionals and the importance of holistic and continuous care strategies. This is a qualitative, descriptive study based on a literature review of scientific articles published in recent years in health databases. The selection criteria included studies addressing clinical manifestations, psychosocial effects, and health care approaches related to paranoid schizophrenia. The analysis focused on identifying patterns, challenges, and effective interventions in comprehensive care. The results indicate that paranoid schizophrenia leads to significant impairments in social relationships, occupational functioning, and autonomy. Clinically, patients often present persistent delusions and auditory hallucinations, requiring long-term pharmacological treatment. Psychosocially, stigma, social isolation, and family burden are prominent factors that hinder recovery and adherence to treatment. Furthermore, gaps in health systems, such as limited access to specialized services and insufficient integration between care levels, were identified as barriers to effective comprehensive care. The discussion highlights the need for integrated care models that combine medical treatment with psychosocial support, including psychotherapy, family involvement, and community-based interventions. It also emphasizes the role of health professionals in promoting patient-centered care and reducing stigma associated with mental illness. In conclusion, paranoid schizophrenia has profound clinical and psychosocial impacts that demand a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach in health care. Strengthening health systems, improving access to services, and promoting social inclusion are essential strategies to enhance the quality of life of individuals affected by this disorder.
