Abstract

Introduction: Systemic arterial hypertension is one of the main risk factors for the development of cardiovascular diseases, and physical exercise is an important non-pharmacological strategy for its prevention and control. Objective: To analyze the influence of physical exercise on the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases in hypertensive patients, compared to sedentary individuals or those with low adherence to exercise programs. Methods: This is a systematic review conducted in the SciELO, PubMed, and Google Scholar databases, including studies published between 2010 and 2025. Clinical trials and observational studies investigating physical exercise as the main intervention in hypertensive individuals were included. Results: Thirteen studies were included. The findings showed that different exercise modalities — aerobic, resistance, and combined training — significantly reduce blood pressure, heart rate, and cholesterol levels, in addition to improving cardiorespiratory capacity and quality of life. Conclusion: Physical exercise is an effective and safe strategy for the prevention and control of cardiovascular diseases and should be encouraged as an essential component of public health policies.
