Neuropsychomotor development in early childhood is a dynamic and complex process
involving the progressive acquisition of motor, cognitive, social, and emotional skills.
This period is considered critical due to the high level of brain plasticity, which makes
children particularly sensitive to biological and environmental influences. In this
context, risk factors such as prematurity, low birth weight, unfavorable socioeconomic
conditions, and lack of adequate stimulation can negatively impact child development.
Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the main risk factors associated with delays in
neuropsychomotor development, identify warning signs, and highlight the importance
of early intervention. To this end, a qualitative literature review was conducted based
on scientific articles selected from databases such as PubMed, SciELO, and Google
Scholar, considering recent publications related to the topic. The findings show that
both biological factors, such as neonatal complications, and environmental factors,
such as social vulnerability and low stimulation, have a significant impact on child
development. Among the main warning signs are delays in postural control, absence
of expected motor milestones for age, difficulties in communication, and limitations in
social interaction. The analysis of the studies also demonstrates that early intervention,
especially when carried out by multidisciplinary teams, significantly improves prognosis
and promotes gains in overall child development. In addition, continuous monitoring
allows for adjustments in therapeutic strategies according to individual needs. It is
concluded that the early identification of risk factors and signs of developmental delay
is essential for implementing effective interventions, and that integrated action among
healthcare professionals, family, and education is fundamental. Furthermore, the
importance of investing in public policies and child monitoring programs is emphasized,
aiming to reduce long-term impacts and improve quality of life.
