Abstract

Introduction:Sudden deafness (SS) is an otorhinolaryngological event with a low incidence, however, it can be the cause of serious hearing disorders. Therefore, therapeutic approaches are the target of investigations and challenges in medicine. Objective:The present study aims to list the conventional treatment of sudden deafness and present the promising future of ozone therapy in hearing restoration.  Method:The literary search was carried out in the following databases: PuBMed, Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS) and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO). The following key words were used: “sudden deafness”, “treatment of sudden deafness”, “ozone”, with the help of the Boolean operator “AND”.Results and Discussion: 14 publications were analyzed focusing on standard treatment strategies for sensorineural hearing loss, including the application of ozone. Conclusion:The best approach to treating SS is still controversial, however, ozone therapy may be a promising option.
