IMPACT OF ORAL REHABILITATION ON QUALITY OF LIFE: A LITERATURE REVIEW

ABSTRACT
Tooth loss and the aesthetic and functional alterations resulting from oral impairments are often associated with negative impacts on quality of life, self-esteem, and mental health. Patients with edentulous mouth or significant tooth loss may experience depressive symptoms, social isolation, and behavioral withdrawal, particularly when smile aesthetics and masticatory function are compromised. In this context, oral rehabilitation emerges as a therapeutic intervention capable of restoring not only oral function but also the emotional and social aspects of patients. This study aimed to analyze, through a literature review, the main impacts of oral rehabilitation on quality of life, with emphasis on the psychosocial changes observed after treatment. A literature review was conducted in the PubMed, SciELO, and Google Scholar databases, including studies published between 2018 and 2025. The analyzed literature demonstrates that oral rehabilitation is associated with significant improvements in oral health-related quality of life, reduction of depressive symptoms, increased self-esteem, and greater social reintegration. It is concluded that oral rehabilitation should be understood as a multidimensional intervention with direct impact on physical, psychological, and social well-being.
