Abstract

Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, representing a major public health problem. This study aimed to analyze hospital morbidity due to acute myocardial infarction across the different regions of Brazil between 2023 and 2025. This is an epidemiological, observational, descriptive study with a quantitative approach, based on the analysis of secondary data obtained from the Departamento de Informática do Sistema Único de Saúde (DATASUS). Hospitalization records available in the Hospital Information System of the Brazilian Unified Health System (SIH/SUS) were analyzed, considering their distribution across Brazilian regions (North, Northeast, Southeast, South, and Midwest). The results showed an increasing trend in hospitalizations for AMI during the analyzed period, with a higher concentration of cases in the Southeast and South regions. In contrast, the North and Midwest regions presented lower values of hospital morbidity. These findings may be associated with demographic and epidemiological factors, as well as the unequal distribution of healthcare infrastructure across the national territory. It can be concluded that acute myocardial infarction remains an important cause of hospitalization in Brazil, highlighting the need to strengthen prevention strategies, early diagnosis, and control of cardiovascular risk factors.
