HANDWASHING TEACHING FOR CHILDREN: CONTRIBUTIONS OF UNIVERSITY EXTENSION IN MEDICAL TRAINING

Abstract

This article reports the experience of the extension project “Teaching hand washing for children aged 6 to 8”, which was developed by the Medicine course at UniCesumar de Maringá, which aims to teach children from public and private schools about the importance of hygiene of the hands. In this way, students sought to learn about the topic and about children's behavior so that children had the best learning experience. Furthermore, visual resources and theatricalization were used to facilitate the teaching-learning process on the topic. It was observed that there was a rapprochement between university students and the target audience, making them more skilled in relating to children. In this sense, it is clear that students expanded their vision of extension projects, allowing them to understand the importance of contact with the community from the first years of the course and enabling the improvement of extracurricular skills that were necessary for the development of the activity extensionist.
