Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder with high global prevalence, and its uncontrolled form is associated with an increased risk of clinical complications, recurrent hospitalizations, higher mortality, and significant economic impact on health systems. In Brazil, uncontrolled epileptic seizures represent a major challenge for the Unified Health System (SUS), especially in densely populated regions such as the Southeast. In this context, the present study aimed to analyze the temporal evolution of hospital treatment for uncontrolled epileptic seizures in the Southeast Region of Brazil between 2019 and 2025. This is a cross-sectional, descriptive study with a quantitative approach, conducted using secondary data obtained from the Hospital Information System of SUS (SIH/SUS) through DATASUS. The variables analyzed included number of hospitalizations, in-hospital deaths, average length of stay, total hospitalization costs, and mortality rates, according to federative unit and year of occurrence. The results showed a progressive increase in hospitalizations, healthcare expenditures, and deaths until 2024, followed by a reduction in 2025, possibly related to incomplete data for the final year. A concentration of cases was observed in the states of São Paulo and Minas Gerais, as well as a gradual increase in hospital mortality rates. It is concluded that uncontrolled epileptic seizures remain an important public health problem in the Southeast Region of Brazil, highlighting the need to strengthen outpatient care, expand access to specialized services, and implement public policies aimed at reducing avoidable hospitalizations and improving clinical outcomes within the SUS.
