Endodontic treatment of a calcified root canal with absence of pulp chamber and darkened tooth – case report.

A 38-year-old female patient was referred to an endodontist's office due to the need for endodontic treatment on tooth #22 (left maxillary lateral incisor). She reported trauma to the tooth just over 10 years prior and previous unsuccessful attempts at endodontic treatment by another dentist. Initial radiographic examination revealed canal calcification in the cervical-middle third of the root. Access to the canal was attempted with significant assistance from image magnification and the TRA-24® ultrasonic insert. Using these tools and intermittent explorations with a #10® K-file, the canal was precisely located. After radiographic odontometry, canal preparation was performed with a Solla S1 35.04 file, and obturation was performed using the single cone technique combined with the Bio-C Sealer. It is concluded that endodontic intervention with the aid of a microscope and ultrasound determined the success of the calcified canal therapy.
