Retreatment of a maxillary central incisor with internal resorption and extensive periapical bone radiolucency of approximately 15 millimeters – Case report

The aim of this study was to describe a clinical case of endodontic retreatment of a maxillary central incisor. A 25-year-old female patient, without systemic problems, was referred to a private endodontist's office for treatment of tooth 21. Periapical radiographic examination revealed internal resorption and extensive periapical bone radiolucency of approximately 15 millimeters. After anesthesia, coronal opening was performed and gutta-percha was removed. Endodontic retreatment was performed with a WaveOne Gold #35.05 file (Dentsply/Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland) in reciprocating motion. Electronic foraminal odontometry was performed with a locator. Repreparation was done with a WaveOne Gold #45.05 file associated with irrigation with 2.5% sodium hypochlorite. The canal obturation was performed using the modified Tagger hybrid technique, with a Spadden #70 MC compactor. It is concluded that the retreatment performed with WaveOne Gold files resulted in excellent repreparation of the root canal
