Preparation of lower molar with chronic apical periodontitis with rotary instrumentation – Solla Collors 35.04 in the mesial and 40.04 in the distal canal

Abstract

A 49-year-old male patient with no history of systemic diseases sought a private practice to perform endodontics on a lower molar with chronic apical periodontitis. The radiograph showed a periapical lesion involving both roots. After anesthesia, the tooth was isolated and the coronal access was made with a number 1014 drill. Irrigation was performed with 2% chlorhexidine gel. After exploration of the root canals with K-Flie #10 files, the actual length of the tooth was established with an apex locator. The preparation was performed with a Solla Collors 35.04 instrument in the mesial canals and 40.04 in the distal canal, with in and out movements throughout the root canal until reaching the established working length. Foraminal patency, extending 1 mm beyond the exit of the apical foramen, was performed with a Solla Collors 16/02 Glide Path file. The filling was performed using the single cone technique associated with Bio-C Sealer cement. It was concluded that the preparation with Solla Collors files provides adequate formatting and modeling of the root canals of lower molars.
