Repair of bone radiolucent in a lower molar 7 months after conservative endodontic therapy – case report

A 28-year-old female patient was referred to a private endodontist's office for endodontic treatment of tooth 36. Clinically, she presented as asymptomatically, with a fistula, a negative response to the cold pulp sensitivity test, and a negative response to horizontal and vertical percussion tests. Periapical radiographic examination revealed periapical bone radiolucency surrounding the furcation. After anesthesia and coronal opening, canal exploration and electronic odontometry were performed. Root canal preparation was performed with Rociproc R40 followed by irrigation with 2.5% sodium hypochlorite. Foraminal patency was achieved with a Glide 25.1 file. To remove the smear layer, irrigation was performed with 5 mL of 17% EDTA followed by 2.5% sodium hypochlorite, using Easy Clean to agitate the irrigating solutions. Root canal obturation performed using the single cone technique, associated with Bio-C Sealer cement. It is concluded that after a 7-month follow-up, the periapical lesion and furcation area were repaired.
