Abstract

Introduction: Wound care is a multidisciplinary challenge, and care planning must be organized and constructed based on the processes of assessment, classification, and wound healing. One strategy that has been gaining prominence is low-level laser therapy (LLLT), which aims to stimulate tissue repair. Objective: To evaluate the response to low-level laser therapy treatment in patients with venous ulcers in relation to healing. Method: This retrospective study evaluated data from four patients with venous ulcers treated at the Univates Wound Clinic between 2023 and 2024. Results: The patients' average age was 68.25 years, and the number of sessions ranged from 9 to 39 over 3 to 8 months of treatment. Red laser was used in all patients and blue laser in three patients. Dosimetry ranged from 5 to 6 joules, with time being dose-dependent. All patients showed improvement in the appearance of inflammation and wound contamination; however, the response varied in relation to the extent of the affected area. Conclusion: LLLT is beneficial as an adjunct therapy to the treatment of chronic wounds; however, chronic wounds are complex, and treatment depends on several factors such as home care, patient comorbidities, number of sessions, and wound characteristics.
