ABSTRACT: Introduction: The female population is significantly susceptible to gynecological diseases, with benign conditions being highly prevalent and having a potential impact on quality of life. However, these diseases are often under-researched and receive less scientific investment compared to malignant conditions. Objective: To describe the epidemiological profile of the main gynecological complaints and their correlation with age in patients treated at the Júlio Bandeira University Hospital (HUJB), aiming to foster targeted health actions and enable the promotion of women's health. Specific Objectives: To identify the most common gynecological diseases; to correlate them with age groups and to compare local data with state and federal references. Method: This is a quantitative, observational, retrospective, and cross-sectional study, primarily based on the analysis of electronic medical records focused on women's health problems, with an emphasis on benign diseases. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee. Results: Data analysis revealed that the most significant complaints were related to uterine fibroids, totaling 364 cases (31.62%), uterine polyps represented 115 cases (9.99%), and ovarian conditions, 105 cases (9.12%). Next were genital prolapses (100 cases; 8.69%) and unspecified breast nodules (86 cases; 7.47%). Among the 5 most common diagnoses, 4 had the highest absolute number of cases concentrated in the 40-49 age group (leiomyomas, polyps, ovaries, and unspecified breast nodules). Only genital prolapses showed a higher prevalence in the 60-69 age group. Conclusion: The need to promote strategic screening and early treatment actions, with the development of health campaigns focused on more susceptible age groups, is evident. Implementing these actions can ensure that the principles of prevention and health promotion of the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) reach this group of benign, often neglected diseases.
Keywords: Diseases of the female genitals; age range; epidemiological profile.
