This study presents a systematic literature review on teacher knowledge and its articulation with pedagogical innovation, aiming to map the state of the art, identify research gaps, and suggest directions for teacher practice in contemporary teaching contexts. OBJECTIVE: to understand how teacher knowledge (content, pedagogical, technological, and contextual) transforms and mobilizes the process of pedagogical innovation. METHODOLOGY: adopted the PRISMA model criteria for systematic reviews, conducting searches in databases such as Web of Science, Scopus, and ERIC, selecting articles published between 2014 and 2024, applying language filters (English and Portuguese), and using an empirical approach within a structured protocol. RESULTS: The study showed that the most frequently investigated teacher knowledge areas are pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) and pedagogical technology knowledge (TPACK), with innovations focused on technological integration, active learning, and instructional design emerging predominantly. CONCLUSION: The connections between teachers' knowledge and pedagogical innovation reveal a promising, yet still fragmented, field: greater methodological rigor, conceptual clarity, longitudinal monitoring, and planned continuous training are recommended. In practical terms, the results reinforce the need for institutional policies that foster communities of practice and innovative learning environments, as well as teacher development programs that integrate multiple areas of knowledge in a contextualized way. This production is scientifically and socially relevant, since the qualification of teachers' knowledge constitutes a strategic element for the quality and equity of contemporary education.
