Endodontic Treatment of Tooth 47 with Pulp Necrosis Using Endodontic Technologies: Rotary Instrumentation and Foraminal Locator – Case Report

Abstract

A 58-year-old male patient, with no history of systemic diseases, was referred to a private practice complaining of pain upon vertical percussion in tooth 47. Radiographically, a coronal opening performed by another professional and widening of the periodontal space of the mesial root were observed. After removal of the dressing, exploration of the root canals was performed with files #10 and #15. Electronic odontometry was performed with the J. Morita Root ZX apex locator. Root canal instrumentation was performed at the zero measurement of the electronic apex locator. Preparation was performed with the Solla Files Colors rotary file #30.04 in the mesial canals and #40.04 in the distal canal. Foraminal patency, exceeding the apical foramen exit by 1 mm, was achieved with the Solla File Glidepath file #16.02. The obturation of the root canal system was performed using the calibrated single cone technique, associated with the BIO-C Sealer bioceramic cement (Ângelus, Londrina). It is concluded that the Solla files were prepared with excellent precision, allowing for adequate shaping and following the pronounced curvatures of the lower molar.
