SCLEROTHERAPY IN THE TREATMENT OF ORAL HEMANGIOMA: A CLINICAL CASE REPORT

Hemangioma is a benign vascular lesion with a purplish coloration due to high vascularization, which may or may not be associated with painful symptoms. Sclerotherapy is an alternative treatment for hemangiomas, involving the intralesional application of a sclerosing agent. This study aims to report a clinical case of a patient with an oral cavity hemangioma, addressing the diagnostic and therapeutic stages using sclerotherapy. The patient was a 67-year-old female presenting with a purplish, blister-like lesion on the right side of the lower lip, measuring 8×6 mm, present for approximately twenty years. The diagnosis was established through clinical examination and diascopy, and the treatment was performed using sclerotherapy with intralesional application of monoethanolamine oleate (-Ethamolin®). This technique was chosen because it is a minimally invasive, safe, and low-cost method that provides good aesthetic and functional results. A single session of sclerotherapy with monoethanolamine oleate was performed, resulting in significant improvement of the condition without complications. The presented case reinforces the effectiveness of sclerotherapy with ethanolamine oleate in the management of oral hemangiomas and highlights the importance of accurate diagnosis and appropriate choice of therapeutic approach.
