Abstract

Introduction: Herpes simplex is a recurrent viral infection, mainly caused by the herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), which typically manifests as painful lesions in the orolabial region. In addition to the physical impact on patients, this condition can significantly affect quality of life, especially in cases of frequent recurrence. Conventional treatments, based on topical or systemic antivirals, aim to control symptoms and reduce the frequency of outbreaks, but they do not always provide immediate pain relief or accelerate the healing process. In this context, low-level laser therapy emerges as a promising therapeutic alternative due to its analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and biostimulatory properties. The application of low-power laser has shown positive results in reducing pain, decreasing local inflammation, and accelerating tissue regeneration, making it a complementary or even substitute option for traditional treatments.

Objectives: To analyze the available scientific literature regarding the effects of low-level laser therapy in the treatment of herpes simplex, based on recent scientific evidence, highlighting its mechanisms of action, clinical effectiveness, and possible limitations.

Methodology: This study is a descriptive literature review conducted through searches in scientific databases such as SciELO, PubMed, and Google Scholar, in order to select relevant articles related to the topic.

Conclusion: The review will be concluded with a summary of the main findings, emphasizing the relevance of low-level laser therapy in the treatment of herpes labialis.
