Abstract

This study aims to analyze the systemic repercussions of periodontitis, recognized as a chronic inflammatory disease with effects that extend beyond the oral cavity. The research investigates the correlation between periodontitis and systemic conditions such as diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, and other chronic pathologies associated with persistent inflammatory processes. To this end, an integrative literature review was conducted, selecting scientific articles from the PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases, including clinical, genetic, and experimental studies addressing immunoinflammatory mechanisms and adjunctive therapies, such as immunomodulatory approaches, regenerative therapies, and the use of bioactive substances. The collected evidence reinforces the need for a multidisciplinary and integrative approach to the management of periodontal and systemic health.
