Abstract

Introduction: Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), which includes Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, is a chronic disorder that affects both the digestive system and other areas of the body, such as the skin. Cutaneous manifestations are common and can reflect the inflammatory activity of the disease, significantly impacting the patients' quality of life. Objective: The aim of this article is to explore the cutaneous manifestations associated with IBD, their relationship with systemic inflammation, and the current approaches for their diagnosis and treatment. Methodology: A literature review was conducted using the PubMed database, focusing on articles published between 2020 and 2025. Observational studies, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses related to cutaneous manifestations in IBD were included. Results: The most common cutaneous manifestations in patients with IBD include erythema nodosum, pyoderma gangrenosum, oral aphthae, psoriasis, and eczema. These conditions are closely related to the inflammatory activity of IBD and affect the patients' quality of life by generating stress, anxiety, and social isolation. Conclusion: Cutaneous manifestations in patients with IBD have a significant physical and emotional impact. An integrated therapeutic approach that addresses both intestinal symptoms and dermatological conditions is essential to improving the patients' quality of life. Proper management that considers the physical, emotional, and social aspects of the disease is required.
