Abstract
Pulp calcification is one of the biggest challenges for endodontists, as it is the result of mineral deposition inside the pulp tissue. Conventional radiographs are two-dimensional, which makes it difficult to visualize the canal. Computed Tomography (CT), on the other hand, offers detailed three-dimensional images, allowing the degree of obliteration, root anatomy and relationship with adjacent structures to be assessed. The aim of this article was to analyze the importance of CT in the diagnosis and planning of endodontic treatment for calcified root canals. An integrative literature review was carried out in databases such as PubMed, Scielo, BVS, The Cochrane Library, Scirus and Portal de Periódicos, using the descriptors “computed tomography”, ‘endodontics’ and “calcified canals”. We included studies published between 2020 and 2025, in Portuguese, English and Spanish, which addressed the application of CT in cases of pulp calcification. It was concluded that the use of these digital resources optimizes the treatment of calcified canals and improves long-term clinical prognosis, as the association of CT with guided endodontics has proved effective in reducing the risk of perforation, deviations and instrument fractures, increasing treatment safety and predictability.
