Hernia surgery is a widely performed procedure in general surgery, with three main approaches: open, laparoscopic, and robotic hernia repair. Inguinal hernia repair is one of the most common surgeries, performed in over 20 million patients worldwide annually. This study aims to describe postoperative complications in male patients undergoing this surgery. A literature review was conducted through Google Scholar, PubMed, Scielo, and Lilacs. Inclusion criteria encompassed national and international papers in Portuguese, English, or Spanish. Results indicate a tenfold higher risk of postoperative complications in men undergoing inguinal hernia repair. Comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, and smoking showed statistically significant influence on postoperative complications. Preoperative control of these conditions and proper patient guidance can optimize the surgical process. Common complications include pain, seroma, urinary retention, and surgical site infection. Incarcerated inguinal hernia requires emergency surgery to prevent serious complications. This study provides relevant insights into postoperative complications in inguinal hernia repairs in men, emphasizing the importance of comorbidity assessment and proper management to improve surgical outcomes.
