RIBBOND® COMO ALIADO NA REABILITAÇÃO DE DENTES SEVERAMENTE DESTRUÍDOS: EFICIÊNCIA E APLICAÇÕES CLÍNICAS

The restoration of teeth with extensive structural loss, especially after endodontic treatment, remains a clinical challenge in dentistry. Traditionally, metal posts and prosthetic crowns are used, which, although effective, require significant removal of remaining dental tissue, potentially compromising the integrity of the root structure and increasing the risk of catastrophic fractures. With the evolution of restorative materials and the consolidation of adhesion as the basis for conservative treatment, new approaches based on the principles of biomimetics have emerged. These techniques aim to restore the tooth by mimicking its original structure and function, respecting natural biological and mechanical limits. Among these innovations, the use of fibre-reinforced composites (such as Ribbond®) stands out, as they have a modulus of elasticity similar to that of dentine, favouring the dissipation of forces and increasing fracture resistance. In addition, there is growing concern about the ‘repetitive restorative cycle,’ in which each new intervention requires more structural wear and brings the tooth closer to permanent loss. Biomimetic techniques, by focusing on preserving tooth structure and functional restoration through adhesion and internal structural reinforcement, such as the use of fibres, present themselves as a promising alternative for increasing the longevity of restorations and reducing failures. Thus, investigating the clinical application of these protocols and materials, as well as understanding their influence on the strength and durability of restored teeth, is justified by the need to offer more conservative, predictable and biologically respectful treatments.
