Muerte súbita cardiaca en adultos, un desafío para la cardiología moderna: una revisión literaria

Abstract

Over time, sudden death has been viewed as a phenomenon shrouded in mystery and controversy, with its definitions only recently becoming clearer. Although there are several causes, attention is focused on cardiovascular diseases, which have so severely impacted health in recent years. The latest consensus has established that managing this condition requires a multidisciplinary approach involving several specialties, including the active participation of the first line of care, both in terms of primary prevention through the intervention of modifiable risk factors that, if detected early, can prevent the pathologies that predispose to sudden death, and in addition to the preparation and access to different management methods in the event that it occurs. In this work, a literature review was conducted using various search engines such as PubMed, ScienceDirect and Latindex, using key descriptors such as "sudden cardiac death", "implantable cardioverter defibrillator" and "cardioprotected spaces". The inclusion criteria used were published articles that were no more than 10 years old; that were available in English, Spanish or Portuguese; that covered the topic of sudden cardiac death. Although it continues to constitute a major health problem today, its incidence is decreasing due to advances in genetic medicine and new technologies based on artificial intelligence for screening and risk stratification. Not to mention the importance of implementing so-called cardio-protected spaces in strategic locations.
