THE REDUCTION IN THE PERFORMANCE OF PROCEDURES FOR SCREENING CAD DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND THE INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF PROCEDURES FOR TREATMENT AND DEATHS FROM AMI IN THE POST-PANDEMIC PERIOD: A QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS

Coronaviruses have been circulating for decades as respiratory viruses, causing various epidemics around the world. In 2019, they emerged in China as a mutation of COVID-19, causing a pandemic and triggering the need for social distancing policies worldwide. Due to isolation, millions of patients were unable to undergo screening procedures for chronic diseases and/or prevention of acute illnesses, including acute myocardial infarction (AMI), which is the leading cause of death worldwide and annually causes thousands of hospitalizations nationwide. Considering the consequences of social isolation policies during the COVID-19 pandemic, the question arises about changes in the epidemiological recording pattern of this cardiac event in Brazil. Based on this principle, the primary objective of this study is to determine the number of screening tests for CAD during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the number of treatments and deaths from AMI during the analyzed period, searching for data available through DataSUS. This study will analyze the potential effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on patients with AMI during and after periods of social isolation, collaborating with the scientific community and policymakers.
