Abstract
Teleradiology is a telemedicine specialty that consists mainly of the remote production of diagnoses and reports of imaging exams by radiologists. A range of possibilities reaches clinics and offices with greater interactivity between professionals and patients, reducing costs and contributing sustainably to the environment. Through information and communication technologies (ICT), the growth of information technology (IT), advanced software and image analysis and image archiving (PACS), it becomes possible to transmit images in real time and in high resolution for accurate and efficient diagnoses. Despite this, it is still necessary to dissociate some paradigms and improve the work method to properly adapt to the system. A literature review was carried out using the key words: teleradiology, radiology, dentistry and professional practices in the SciELO and PubMED databases. The present study aimed to report the benefits and harms of this new radiological technology, evidencing its applicability and implementation in dental radiology. It is observed that teleradiology optimizes image sharing in dentistry, making diagnoses faster, more accessible and sustainable. Despite limitations, its benefits justify expansion and investment in the area.
