Abstract

Pulmonary Embolism consists of the acute obstruction of the pulmonary arterial circulation by blood clots, originating from the systemic venous circulation, with reduction or cessation of pulmonary blood flow to the affected area. Furthermore, it is known that the incidence of deaths due to pulmonary embolism has increased in the last decade, becoming a public health problem and a greater demand for medical care. To analyze the number of deaths from pulmonary embolism per year and their respective epidemiological profile, in Brazil, over the last five years. This is a descriptive cross-sectional study, carried out using secondary data, provided by DATASUS between the years of January 2018 to December 2022. The rate of deaths due to pulmonary embolism was analyzed, based on gender, age group and age. character of service. In the period analyzed, 9,213 deaths due to pulmonary embolism were recorded in Brazil. It is concluded that knowledge and identification about this topic is essential for better patient management. And public policies are necessary, aimed at early diagnosis and prevention measures.
