Abstract

The objective was to discuss the case of a 7-year-old English Bulldog dog with brachycephalic syndrome. The patient's history revealed a dog that was not very active, that spent most of its time lying down, did not go to its food, urinated in the places where it usually lay down, refused to do physical exercise, had episodes of snoring and made atypical respiratory noises. , since he was a puppy. During the physical assessment, marked brachycephaly was found, body score 8/9, marked respiratory noise and more specifically, significant nasal stenosis, mildly cyanotic tongue and gums and a significant extension of the soft palate were evident. Electively, the patient was referred to surgery for staphylectomy and rhinoplasty. He remained hospitalized for 30 hours and as a post-operative medication protocol, the following were prescribed: antibiotic therapy, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, wound treatment and adaptation of water and food management. Four days after the procedure, the patient was readmitted to the clinic for 24 hours, due to breathing noises and serous secretion in the palate region. On the eighth day after surgery, the guardian reported that the patient had thick, frothy, white secretions, in addition to choking and breathing noises, so a new prescription was issued. 15 days after the surgical intervention, the patient had his stitches removed and was discharged, showing a considerable improvement in his physical condition and consequently in his quality of life.
