Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease, subject tomandatory notification, caused by any of the seven speciesthat make up the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex: M. tuberculosis, M. bovis, M. africanum, M. canetti, M. microti, M. pinnipedi and M. caprae. TB can be prevented, treated andcured, but it is still prevalent among the poorest populationand contributes to the perpetuation of social inequality. Brazilhas recorded 1,020,108 cases of tuberculosis in the last tenyears, with 26.27% of diagnoses being in the Northeast region, and 6.28% being in the state of Pernambuco. The municipalityof Petrolina, located in the backlands of Pernambuco, reporteda total of 1,146 cases of tuberculosis from 2013 to 2023. Thisstudy aims to establish the epidemiological profile oftuberculosis in the municipality of Petrolina-PE, from 2013 to2023. An ecological study was carried out by collecting data from SINAN (Notifiable Disease Information System), linkedto DATASUS, regarding the epidemiological profile oftuberculosis in the municipality in question, from 2013 to2023. The city of Petrolina presented a number of tuberculosiscases above the national and state average, revealing a major challenge for public health with regard to the detection, notification and treatment of the disease.
