DESCRIPTION OF CASES AND PROFILE OF HEPATITIS B AND C CARRIERS IN AMAZONAS

Introduction: Hepatitis B and C are infections that impact global public health, and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has become one of the most frequently diagnosed neoplasms among carriers of this virus. Objective: To describe the cases and profile of carriers of hepatitis B and C viruses in the state of Amazonas from 2015 to 2024. Methodology: Retrospective descriptive study using public data existing in the epidemiological bulletins of the Amazonas Health Surveillance Foundation-FVS/AM. Result: From January 2015 to December 2024, 221 cases of hepatitis B and C virus (HBV and HCV) infection were reported in the state of Amazonas. Of these, the majority of cases (62%) were among women aged between 40 and 49 years (31%), brown (89%) and indigenous (8%). Manaus was the city with the highest number of infected people (23.5%), but there were other cities with high percentages as well: Tabatinga (2.7% - bordering Colombia and Peru) and Iranduba (1.8%), the city closest to Manaus. Conclusion: Even though epidemiological data show a progressive decrease in the number of cases of this disease, it is up to the government to intensify guidelines to make the population aware of the risks of contagion of this disease and the ways to prevent it.
