Case Report: Ovarian and cervical carcinomas in a previously healthy patient

Abstract

This article describes the case of a 63-year-old female patient diagnosed with a giant ovarian tumor associated with high-grade mucinous carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. The patient, with a family history of cancer and smoking, sought care due to progressive abdominal enlargement and pelvic pain. Investigation, which included ultrasound and tumor markers, revealed a 9.5 kg cystic mass. Surgical treatment consisted of exploratory laparotomy with left salpingo-oophorectomy. The patient had an uneventful postoperative recovery. Early diagnosis and surgical approach were essential for a good prognosis, despite the presence of carcinoma. This case reinforces the importance of early detection, use of tumor markers, and surgery in the treatment of complex gynecological tumors, offering valuable lessons for clinical practice.
