Abstract

Currently, aesthetic restorations with composite resin are widely used in dentistry. With advances in adhesive systems and resins themselves, it is possible to offer greater safety and predictability in the use of this restorative material, achieving excellent aesthetic and mechanical results when protocols and techniques are properly applied. This study evaluated the self-perception of patients treated at the School Clinic of the Dentistry course of the Federal University of Campina Grande (CEO-UFCG), Patos campus, Paraíba, in relation to the use of composite resin in aesthetic or functional rehabilitations. This is a cross-sectional, observational study, with an inductive approach and descriptive comparative procedure, which used specific questionnaires as a data collection strategy, obtaining a sample that included 61 participants. The study was approved by the Ethics Committee for Research with Human Beings of the University Center of Patos, under opinion number: 6,284,699. The questionnaire addressed demographic characteristics (age, sex, income and education), perception of the treatment (materials used, preference for other materials, selection criteria, restored teeth and objectives of the procedure), as well as assessments of the final result (aesthetic aspect, restoration adaptation and level of satisfaction). The results showed that 52.5% of the participants underwent restorations in anterior teeth, all with composite resin, and 78.1% evaluated the results as excellent. In posterior teeth, 75.6% of the restorations were made with composite resin, with 51.2% of the participants considering the result as excellent. Regarding the impact of the procedure, 96.9% of the patients with restored anterior teeth and 90.2% of those who restored posterior teeth reported an improvement in their quality of life and self-esteem. Given the results, it was possible to observe a positive view of the patients regarding the use of composite resin in restorative procedures and a high degree of satisfaction with the results of the procedures using this material.
