Abstract

Introduction: With significant improvements in the dental field, dental implants are considered new treatment models with promising results. The success rate of implants has been increasing over the years. Therefore, the objective of this study is to report a clinical case of successful rehabilitation of an atrophic maxilla with dental implants. Clinical case report: Patient MRAC, female, 55 years old, black, ASA II, came to the school clinic with complaints of difficulty chewing and aesthetic complaints regarding her smile, with a history of tooth loss “many years ago” (sic). The radiographic examination revealed alveolar resorption throughout the maxilla, with good quality bone remaining in the anterior region, but with loss of bone support for the teeth present in the oral cavity. In this context, an implant-supported rehabilitation of the atrophic maxilla was planned for the patient, through planning of the angulations of the dental implants, with the aim of reducing the need for other procedures prior to the installation of the implants. Six implants were installed, with a minimum torque of 30 N, for subsequent prosthetic rehabilitation. Final considerations: The rehabilitation of atrophic maxillae with dental implants and protocol-type prostheses is an important and highly effective therapeutic option when it is necessary to reestablish function and aesthetics in patients with rehabilitation needs.
