Introduction: Small intestine volvulus, a type of intestinal malrotation, affects 0.2-1% of the population. Prenatal diagnosis in isolation is difficult and is usually made by ultrasonographic observation of volvulus complications. Currently, the gold standard for diagnosing malrotation is contrast-enhanced gastrointestinal radiography after birth, but exploratory laparotomy can be performed for diagnosis and treatment, even without radiological diagnosis. Objectives: Due to the complications and rarity of this malformation, we present a case of small intestine volvulus, to emphasize the importance of suspicion of diagnosis and early surgical intervention, to avoid neonatal mortality and long-term complications. Case report: We report a case of a patient, born at term by emergency cesarean section at 37 weeks and 1 day, who presented neonatal anoxia and progressive clinical worsening. Therefore, exploration laparotomy was performed, which revealed small bowel volvulus, requiring surgical resection of part of the small intestine, developing short bowel syndrome. Conclusion: Short bowel syndrome, as a consequence of small bowel volvulus, has a high potential for complications and perinatal mortality. Therefore, early diagnosis and the action of a team
