ASSOCIAÇÃO ENTRE HPV E CARCINOMA DE OROFARINGE: IMPLICAÇÕES PARA VACINAÇÃO UNIVERSAL

The human papillomavirus (HPV) has been identified as a significant etiopathogenic factor in the development of oropharyngeal carcinoma (OPC). Epidemiological studies show an increasing incidence of this type of neoplasia, especially among younger individuals without a history of smoking or alcohol consumption, suggesting a direct relationship with HPV infection. Universal HPV vaccination has proven to be an effective strategy in preventing cervical and anogenital neoplasms, and its expansion to both sexes may positively impact the reduction of OPC incidence. This article reviews the literature on the association between HPV and OPC, discusses the implications of universal vaccination in preventing this neoplasm, and presents relevant statistical data.
