Abstract

Objective: To analyze the prevalence of hospitalizations due to urolithiasis in Brazil between January 2014 and June 2024. Methodology: This is an epidemiological, retrospective, descriptive, and quantitative study based on secondary data. The information was obtained from the Hospital Information System of the Unified Health System (SIH/SUS) through the Department of Informatics of SUS (DATASUS). Variables such as year of hospitalization, sex, age group, race/ethnicity, type of hospitalization, and geographical distribution were analyzed. Results: During the evaluated period, 909,341 hospitalizations due to urolithiasis were recorded in Brazil. The highest prevalence was observed in 2023 (12.74%), among males (50.49%), in the 40–49 age group (22.29%), and among white individuals (45.05%). Most hospitalizations were classified as urgent cases (71.08%), with the highest incidence in the Southeast region (46.61%). Conclusion: The high prevalence of hospitalizations due to urolithiasis, particularly among middle-aged adults in the Southeast and South regions, highlights the need for preventive strategies and improvements in clinical management to reduce hospital admissions and mitigate the burden on the healthcare system.
